Quran 50:6

Surah Qaaf, Verse 6

أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ

Word by word

أَفَلَمْ afalam Then do not يَنظُرُوٓا۟ yanẓurū they look إِلَى ilā at ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky فَوْقَهُمْ fawqahum above them كَيْفَ kayfa how بَنَيْنَـٰهَا banaynāhā We structured it وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا wazayyannāhā and adorned it وَمَا wamā and not لَهَا lahā for it مِن min any فُرُوجٍۢ furūjin rifts

Transliteration

Afalam yanthuroo ila assama-ifawqahum kayfa banaynaha wazayyannahawama laha min furooj

Translations

Have they not then observed the sky above them, how We have constructed it and beautified it, and how there are no rifts therein?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Do they not look at the sky above them?- How We have made it and adorned it, and there are no flaws in it?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى منبها للعباد على قدرته العظيمة التي أظهر بها ما هو أعظم مما تعجبوا مستبعدين لوقوعه : ( أفلم ينظروا إلى السماء فوقهم كيف بنيناها وزيناها ) ؟ أي : بالمصابيح ، ( وما لها من فروج ) . قال مجاهد : يعني من شقوق . وقال غيره : فتوق . وقال غيره : من صدوع . والمعنى متقارب ، كقوله تعالى : ( الذي خلق سبع سماوات طباقا ما ترى في خلق الرحمن من تفاوت فارجع البصر هل ترى من فطور ثم ارجع البصر كرتين ينقلب إليك البصر خاسئا وهو حسير ) [ الملك : 3 ، 4 ] أي : كليل ، أي : عن أن يرى عيبا أو نقصا .
