Quran 53:29
Surah An-Najm, Verse 29

فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
Word by word
فَأَعْرِضْ fa-aʿriḍ So turn away عَن ʿan from مَّن man (him) who تَوَلَّىٰ tawallā turns away عَن ʿan from ذِكْرِنَا dhik'rinā Our Reminder وَلَمْ walam and not يُرِدْ yurid he desires إِلَّا illā except ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ l-ḥayata the life ٱلدُّنْيَا l-dun'yā (of) the world
Transliteration
FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAanthikrina walam yurid illa alhayataaddunya
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
Then withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world.
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
وقوله : ( فأعرض عن من تولى عن ذكرنا ) أي : أعرض عن الذي أعرض عن الحق واهجره .
وقوله : ( ولم يرد إلا الحياة الدنيا ) أي : وإنما أكثر همه ومبلغ علمه الدنيا ، فذاك هو غاية ما لا خير فيه . ولذلك قال :
