Quran 63:10

Surah Al-Munaafiqoon, Verse 10

وَأَنفِقُوا۟ مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَٰكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

Word by word

وَأَنفِقُوا۟ wa-anfiqū And spend مِن min from مَّا mā what رَزَقْنَـٰكُم razaqnākum We have provided you مِّن min from قَبْلِ qabli before أَن an [that] يَأْتِىَ yatiya comes أَحَدَكُمُ aḥadakumu (to) one of you ٱلْمَوْتُ l-mawtu the death فَيَقُولَ fayaqūla and he says رَبِّ rabbi My Lord لَوْلَآ lawlā Why not أَخَّرْتَنِىٓ akhartanī You delay me إِلَىٰٓ ilā for أَجَلٍۢ ajalin a term قَرِيبٍۢ qarībin near فَأَصَّدَّقَ fa-aṣṣaddaqa so I would give charity وَأَكُن wa-akun and be مِّنَ mina among ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ l-ṣāliḥīna the righteous

Transliteration

Waanfiqoo min ma razaqnakummin qabli an ya/tiya ahadakumu almawtu fayaqoola rabbilawla akhkhartanee ila ajalin qareebin faassaddaqawaakun mina assaliheen

Translations

And spend of that wherewith We have provided you before death cometh unto one of you and he saith: My Lord! If only thou wouldst reprieve me for a little while, then I would give alms and be among the righteous.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

and spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you, before Death should come to any of you and he should say, "O my Lord! why didst Thou not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity, and I should have been one of the doers of good".

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم حثهم على الإنفاق في طاعته فقال : ( وأنفقوا من ما رزقناكم من قبل أن يأتي أحدكم الموت فيقول رب لولا أخرتني إلى أجل قريب فأصدق وأكن من الصالحين ) فكل مفرط يندم عند الاحتضار ، ويسأل طول المدة ولو شيئا يسيرا ، يستعتب ويستدرك ما فاته ، وهيهات ! كان ما كان ، وأتى ما هو آت ، وكل بحسب تفريطه ، أما الكفار فكما قال الله تعالى : ( وأنذر الناس يوم يأتيهم العذاب فيقول الذين ظلموا ربنا أخرنا إلى أجل قريب نجب دعوتك ونتبع الرسل أولم تكونوا أقسمتم من قبل ما لكم من زوال ) [ إبراهيم : 44 ] وقال تعالى : ( حتى إذا جاء أحدهم الموت قال رب ارجعون لعلي أعمل صالحا فيما تركت كلا إنها كلمة هو قائلها ومن ورائهم برزخ إلى يوم يبعثون ) [ المؤمنون : 99 ، 100 ]
