Quran 67:27

Surah Al-Mulk, Verse 27

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ

Word by word

فَلَمَّا falammā But when رَأَوْهُ ra-awhu they (will) see it زُلْفَةًۭ zul'fatan approaching سِيٓـَٔتْ sīat (will be) distressed وُجُوهُ wujūhu (the) faces ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieved وَقِيلَ waqīla and it will be said هَـٰذَا hādhā This ٱلَّذِى alladhī (is) that which كُنتُم kuntum you used to بِهِۦ bihi for it تَدَّعُونَ taddaʿūna call

Transliteration

Falamma raawhu zulfatan see-atwujoohu allatheena kafaroo waqeela hatha allatheekuntum bihi taddaAAoon

Translations

But when they see it nigh, the faces of those who disbelieve will be awry, and it will be said (unto them): This is that for which ye used to call.

At length, when they see it close at hand, grieved will be the faces of the Unbelievers, and it will be said (to them): "This is (the promise fulfilled), which ye were calling for!"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( فلما رأوه زلفة سيئت وجوه الذين كفروا ) أي : لما قامت القيامة وشاهدها الكفار ، ورأوا أن الأمر كان قريبا ; لأن كل ما هو آت آت وإن طال زمنه ، فلما وقع ما كذبوا به ساءهم ذلك ، لما يعلمون ما لهم هناك من الشر ، أي : فأحاط بهم ذلك ، وجاءهم من أمر الله ما لم يكن لهم في بال ولا حساب ، ( وبدا لهم من الله ما لم يكونوا يحتسبون وبدا لهم سيئات ما كسبوا وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزئون ) [ الزمر : 47 ، 48 ] ; ولهذا يقال لهم على وجه التقريع والتوبيخ : ( هذا الذي كنتم به تدعون ) أي : تستعجلون .
