Quran 7:136

Surah Al-A'raaf, Verse 136

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا غَٰفِلِينَ

Word by word

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا fa-intaqamnā So We took retribution مِنْهُمْ min'hum from them فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ fa-aghraqnāhum and We drowned them فِى fī in ٱلْيَمِّ l-yami the sea بِأَنَّهُمْ bi-annahum because they كَذَّبُوا۟ kadhabū denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا biāyātinā Our Signs وَكَانُوا۟ wakānū and they were عَنْهَا ʿanhā to them غَـٰفِلِينَ ghāfilīna heedless

Transliteration

Fantaqamna minhum faaghraqnahumfee alyammi bi-annahum kaththaboo bi-ayatinawakanoo AAanha ghafileen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Therefore We took retribution from them; therefore We drowned them in the sea: because they denied Our revelations and were heedless of them.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

So We exacted retribution from them: We drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our Signs and failed to take warning from them.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى أنهم لما عتوا وتمردوا ، مع ابتلائه إياهم بالآيات المتواترة واحدة بعد واحدة ، [ أنه ] انتقم منهم بإغراقه إياهم في اليم ، وهو البحر الذي فرقه لموسى ، فجاوزه وبنو إسرائيل معه ، ثم ورده فرعون وجنوده على أثرهم ، فلما استكملوا فيه ارتطم عليهم ، فغرقوا عن آخرهم ، وذلك بسبب تكذيبهم بآيات الله وتغافلهم عنها .
