Surah Al-A'raaf, Verse 23

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ
Word by word
قَالَا qālā Both of them said رَبَّنَا rabbanā Our Lord ظَلَمْنَآ ẓalamnā we have wronged أَنفُسَنَا anfusanā ourselves وَإِن wa-in and if لَّمْ lam not تَغْفِرْ taghfir You forgive لَنَا lanā [for] us وَتَرْحَمْنَا watarḥamnā and have mercy (on) us لَنَكُونَنَّ lanakūnanna surely, we will be مِنَ mina among ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ l-khāsirīna the losers
Transliteration
Qala rabbana thalamnaanfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana watarhamnalanakoonanna mina alkhasireen
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost."
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
وقال الضحاك بن مزاحم في قوله : ( ربنا ظلمنا أنفسنا وإن لم تغفر لنا وترحمنا لنكونن من الخاسرين ) هي الكلمات التي تلقاها آدم من ربه عز وجل .
