Quran 8:13

Surah Al-Anfaal, Verse 13

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَآقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

Word by word

ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That بِأَنَّهُمْ bi-annahum (is) because they شَآقُّوا۟ shāqqū opposed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ warasūlahu and His Messenger وَمَن waman And whoever يُشَاقِقِ yushāqiqi opposes ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ warasūlahu and His Messenger فَإِنَّ fa-inna then indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah شَدِيدُ shadīdu (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ l-ʿiqābi in [the] penalty

Transliteration

Thalika bi-annahum shaqqoo Allahawarasoolahu waman yushaqiqi Allaha warasoolahufa-inna Allaha shadeedu alAAiqab

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

That is because they opposed Allah and His messenger. Whoso opposeth Allah and His messenger, (for him) lo! Allah is severe in punishment.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger: If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ولذلك قال [ الله ] تعالى : ( ذلك بأنهم شاقوا الله ورسوله ) أي : خالفوهما فساروا في شق ، وتركوا الشرع والإيمان به واتباعه في شق - وهو مأخوذ أيضا من شق العصا ، وهو جعلها فرقتين - ( ومن يشاقق الله ورسوله فإن الله شديد العقاب ) أي : هو الطالب الغالب لمن خالفه وناوأه ، لا يفوته شيء ، ولا يقوم لغضبه شيء ، تبارك وتعالى ، لا إله غيره ، ولا رب سواه .
