Quran 8:21
Surah Al-Anfaal, Verse 21

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ
Word by word
وَلَا walā And (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ takūnū be كَٱلَّذِينَ ka-alladhīna like those who قَالُوا۟ qālū say سَمِعْنَا samiʿ'nā We heard وَهُمْ wahum while they لَا lā (do) not يَسْمَعُونَ yasmaʿūna hear
Transliteration
Wala takoonoo kallatheenaqaloo samiAAna wahum la yasmaAAoon
Translations

Be not as those who say, we hear, and they hear not.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Nor be like those who say, "We hear," but listen not:
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
( ولا تكونوا كالذين قالوا سمعنا وهم لا يسمعون ) قيل : المراد المشركون . واختاره ابن جرير .
وقال ابن إسحاق : هم المنافقون ؛ فإنهم يظهرون أنهم قد سمعوا واستجابوا ، وليسوا كذلك .
