Quran 8:54

Surah Al-Anfaal, Verse 54

كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَهْلَكْنَٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَآ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَكُلٌّ كَانُوا۟ ظَٰلِمِينَ

Word by word

كَدَأْبِ kadabi Like (the) way ءَالِ āli (of) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ fir'ʿawna (of) Firaun وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those who مِن min (were) from قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ qablihim before them كَذَّبُوا۟ kadhabū They denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِ biāyāti (the) Signs رَبِّهِمْ rabbihim (of) their Lord فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم fa-ahlaknāhum so We destroyed them بِذُنُوبِهِمْ bidhunūbihim for their sins وَأَغْرَقْنَآ wa-aghraqnā and We drowned ءَالَ āla (the) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ fir'ʿawna (of) Firaun وَكُلٌّۭ wakullun and (they) all كَانُوا۟ kānū were ظَـٰلِمِينَ ẓālimīna wrongdoers

Transliteration

Kada/bi ali firAAawna wallatheenamin qablihim kaththaboo bi-ayati rabbihimfaahlaknahum bithunoobihim waaghraqna alafirAAawna wakullun kanoo thalimeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(Their way is) as the way of Pharaoh's folk and those before them; they denied the revelations of their Lord, so We destroyed them in their sins. And We drowned the folk of Pharaoh. All were evil-doers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(Deeds) after the manner of the people of Pharaoh and those before them": They treated as false the Signs of their Lord: so We destroyed them for their crimes, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh: for they were all oppressors and wrong-doers.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله ( كدأب آل فرعون ) أي كصنعه بآل فرعون وأمثالهم حين كذبوا بآياته ، أهلكهم بسبب ذنوبهم ، وسلبهم تلك النعم التي أسداها إليهم من جنات وعيون ، وزروع وكنوز ومقام كريم ، ونعمة كانوا فيها فاكهين ، وما ظلمهم الله في ذلك ، بل كانوا هم الظالمين .
