Quran 85:10

Surah Al-Burooj, Verse 10

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ

Word by word

إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who فَتَنُوا۟ fatanū persecuted ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ l-mu'minīna the believing men وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ wal-mu'mināti and the believing women ثُمَّ thumma then لَمْ lam not يَتُوبُوا۟ yatūbū they repented فَلَهُمْ falahum then for them عَذَابُ ʿadhābu (is the) punishment جَهَنَّمَ jahannama (of) Hell وَلَهُمْ walahum and for them عَذَابُ ʿadhābu (is the) punishment ٱلْحَرِيقِ l-ḥarīqi (of) the Burning Fire

Transliteration

Inna allatheena fatanoo almu/mineenawalmu/minati thumma lam yatooboo falahum AAathabujahannama walahum AAathabu alhareeq

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله ( إن الذين فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات ) أي حرقوا قاله ابن عباس ومجاهد وقتادة والضحاك وابن أبزى

( ثم لم يتوبوا ) أي لم يقلعوا عما فعلوا ويندموا على ما أسلفوا

( فلهم عذاب جهنم ولهم عذاب الحريق ) وذلك أن الجزاء من جنس العمل قال الحسن البصري انظروا إلى هذا الكرم والجود قتلوا أولياءه وهو يدعوهم إلى التوبة والمغفرة
