Quran 9:78

Surah At-Tawba, Verse 78

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَىٰهُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَّٰمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ

Word by word

أَلَمْ alam Do not يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ yaʿlamū they know أَنَّ anna that ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah يَعْلَمُ yaʿlamu knows سِرَّهُمْ sirrahum their secret وَنَجْوَىٰهُمْ wanajwāhum and their secret conversation وَأَنَّ wa-anna and that ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah عَلَّـٰمُ ʿallāmu (is) All-Knower ٱلْغُيُوبِ l-ghuyūbi (of) the unseen

Transliteration

Alam yaAAlamoo anna Allaha yaAAlamusirrahum wanajwahum waanna Allaha AAallamualghuyoob

Translations

Know they not that Allah knoweth both their secret and the thought that they confide, and that Allah is the Knower of Things Hidden?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Know they not that Allah doth know their secret (thoughts) and their secret counsels, and that Allah knoweth well all things unseen?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ألم يعلموا أن الله يعلم سرهم ونجواهم وأن الله علام الغيوب ) يخبرهم تعالى أنه يعلم السر وأخفى ، وأنه أعلم بضمائرهم وإن أظهروا أنه إن حصل لهم أموال تصدقوا منها وشكروا عليها ، فإنه أعلم بهم من أنفسهم ؛ لأنه تعالى علام الغيوب ، أي : يعلم كل غيب وشهادة ، وكل سر ونجوى ، ويعلم ما ظهر وما بطن .
