وَأَنْ أَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفًا وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
Word by word
وَأَنْ wa-an And that أَقِمْ aqim Direct وَجْهَكَ wajhaka your face لِلدِّينِ lilddīni to the religion حَنِيفًۭا ḥanīfan upright وَلَا walā and (do) not تَكُونَنَّ takūnanna be مِنَ mina of ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ l-mush'rikīna the polytheists
Transliteration
Waan aqim wajhaka liddeeni haneefanwala takoonanna mina almushrikeen

And, (O Muhammad) set thy purpose resolutely for religion, as a man by nature upright, and be not of those who ascribe partners (to Allah).

"And further (thus): 'set thy face towards religion with true piety, and never in any wise be of the Unbelievers;
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
وقوله : ( وأن أقم وجهك للدين حنيفا ولا تكونن من المشركين ) أي : أخلص العبادة لله وحده حنيفا ، أي : منحرفا عن الشرك ؛ ولهذا قال : ( ولا تكونن من المشركين ) وهو معطوف على قوله : ( وأمرت أن أكون من المؤمنين )
