Quran 10:70

Surah Yunus, Verse 70

مَتَٰعٌ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ ثُمَّ نُذِيقُهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلشَّدِيدَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْفُرُونَ

Word by word

مَتَـٰعٌۭ matāʿun An enjoyment فِى fī in ٱلدُّنْيَا l-dun'yā the world ثُمَّ thumma then إِلَيْنَا ilaynā to Us مَرْجِعُهُمْ marjiʿuhum (is) their return ثُمَّ thumma then نُذِيقُهُمُ nudhīquhumu We will make them taste ٱلْعَذَابَ l-ʿadhāba the punishment ٱلشَّدِيدَ l-shadīda the severe بِمَا bimā because كَانُوا۟ kānū they used to يَكْفُرُونَ yakfurūna disbelieve

Transliteration

MataAAun fee addunyathumma ilayna marjiAAuhum thumma nutheequhumu alAAathabaashshadeeda bima kanoo yakfuroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

This world's portion (will be theirs), then unto Us is their return. Then We make them taste a dreadful doom because they used to disbelieve.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

A little enjoyment in this world!- and then, to Us will be their return, then shall We make them taste the severest penalty for their blasphemies.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

كما قال هاهنا : ( متاع في الدنيا ) أي : مدة قريبة ، ( ثم إلينا مرجعهم ) أي : يوم القيامة ، ( ثم نذيقهم العذاب الشديد ) أي : الموجع المؤلم ( بما كانوا يكفرون ) أي : بسبب كفرهم وافترائهم وكذبهم على الله ، فيما ادعوه من الإفك والزور .
