Quran 11:29

Surah Hud, Verse 29

وَيَٰقَوْمِ لَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مَالًا إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّهُم مُّلَٰقُوا۟ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَٰكِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ

Word by word

وَيَـٰقَوْمِ wayāqawmi And O my people لَآ lā not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ asalukum I ask (of) you عَلَيْهِ ʿalayhi for it مَالًا ۖ mālan any wealth إِنْ in Not أَجْرِىَ ajriya (is) my reward إِلَّا illā except عَلَى ʿalā from ٱللَّهِ ۚ l-lahi Allah وَمَآ wamā And not أَنَا۠ anā I am بِطَارِدِ biṭāridi going to drive away ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ۚ āmanū believed إِنَّهُم innahum Indeed, they مُّلَـٰقُوا۟ mulāqū (will) be meeting رَبِّهِمْ rabbihim their Lord وَلَـٰكِنِّىٓ walākinnī but I أَرَىٰكُمْ arākum see you قَوْمًۭا qawman (are) a people تَجْهَلُونَ tajhalūna ignorant

Transliteration

Waya qawmi la as-alukumAAalayhi malan in ajriya illa AAala Allahiwama ana bitaridi allatheena amanooinnahum mulaqoo rabbihim walakinnee arakumqawman tajhaloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And O my people! I ask of you no wealth therefor. My reward is the concern only of Allah, and I am not going to thrust away those who believe - Lo! they have to meet their Lord! - but I see you a folk that are ignorant.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"And O my people! I ask you for no wealth in return: my reward is from none but Allah: But I will not drive away (in contempt) those who believe: for verily they are to meet their Lord, and ye I see are the ignorant ones!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول لقومه : لا أسألكم على نصحي [ لكم ] مالا; أجرة آخذها منكم ، إنما أبتغي الأجر من الله عز وجل ، ( وما أنا بطارد الذين آمنوا ) كأنهم طلبوا منه أن يطرد المؤمنين عنه ، احتشاما ونفاسة منهم أن يجلسوا معهم ،
