Surah Yusuf, Verse 72

قَالُوا۟ نَفْقِدُ صُوَاعَ ٱلْمَلِكِ وَلِمَن جَآءَ بِهِۦ حِمْلُ بَعِيرٍ وَأَنَا۠ بِهِۦ زَعِيمٌ

قَالُوا۟ qālū They said نَفْقِدُ nafqidu We are missing صُوَاعَ ṣuwāʿa (the) cup ٱلْمَلِكِ l-maliki (of) the king وَلِمَن waliman And for (one) who جَآءَ jāa brings بِهِۦ bihi it حِمْلُ ḥim'lu (is) a load بَعِيرٍۢ baʿīrin (of) a camel وَأَنَا۠ wa-anā and I بِهِۦ bihi for it زَعِيمٌۭ zaʿīmun (is) responsible
Transliteration
Qaloo nafqidu suwaAAaalmaliki waliman jaa bihi himlu baAAeerin waanabihi zaAAeem
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
They said: We have lost the king's cup, and he who bringeth it shall have a camel-load, and I (said Joseph) am answerable for it.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
They said: "We miss the great beaker of the king; for him who produces it, is (the reward of) a camel load; I will be bound by it."
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
( قالوا نفقد صواع الملك ) أي : صاعه الذي يكيل به ، ( ولمن جاء به حمل بعير ) وهذا من باب الجعالة ، ( وأنا به زعيم ) وهذا من باب الضمان والكفالة .
