Quran 15:39

Surah Al-Hijr, Verse 39

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Word by word

قَالَ qāla He said رَبِّ rabbi My Lord بِمَآ bimā Because أَغْوَيْتَنِى aghwaytanī You misled me لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ la-uzayyinanna surely, I will make (evil) fair-seeming لَهُمْ lahum to them فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ wala-ugh'wiyannahum and I will mislead them أَجْمَعِينَ ajmaʿīna all

Transliteration

Qala rabbi bima aghwaytaneelaozayyinanna lahum fee al-ardi walaoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen

He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عن إبليس وتمرده وعتوه أنه قال للرب : ( بما أغويتني ) قال بعضهم : أقسم بإغواء الله له .

قلت : ويحتمل أنه بسبب ما أغويتني وأضللتني ( لأزينن لهم ) أي : لذرية آدم - عليه السلام - ( في الأرض ) أي : أحبب إليهم المعاصي وأرغبهم فيها ، وأؤزهم إليها ، وأزعجهم إزعاجا ، ( ولأغوينهم ) أي : كما أغويتني وندرت على ذلك
