Quran 16:54

Surah An-Nahl, Verse 54

ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنكُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَ

Word by word

ثُمَّ thumma Then إِذَا idhā when كَشَفَ kashafa He removes ٱلضُّرَّ l-ḍura the adversity عَنكُمْ ʿankum from you إِذَا idhā behold فَرِيقٌۭ farīqun A group مِّنكُم minkum of you بِرَبِّهِمْ birabbihim with their Lord يُشْرِكُونَ yush'rikūna associate others

Transliteration

Thumma itha kashafa addurraAAankum itha fareequn minkum birabbihim yushrikoon

Translations

And afterward, when He hath rid you of the misfortune, behold! a set of you attribute partners to their Lord,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Yet, when He removes the distress from you, behold! some of you turn to other gods to join with their Lord-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقال هاهنا : ( ثم إذا كشف الضر عنكم إذا فريق منكم بربهم يشركون ليكفروا بما آتيناهم )

قيل : " اللام " هاهنا لام العاقبة . وقيل : لام التعليل ، بمعنى : قيضنا لهم ذلك ليكفروا ، أي : يستروا ويجحدوا نعم الله عليهم ، وأنه المسدي إليهم النعم ، الكاشف عنهم النقم .

ثم توعدهم قائلا ) فتمتعوا ) أي : اعملوا ما شئتم وتمتعوا بما أنتم فيه قليلا ( فسوف تعلمون ) أي : عاقبة ذلك .
