Quran 16:56

Surah An-Nahl, Verse 56

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا مِّمَّا رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ تَٱللَّهِ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَفْتَرُونَ

Word by word

وَيَجْعَلُونَ wayajʿalūna And they assign لِمَا limā to what لَا lā not يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna they know نَصِيبًۭا naṣīban a portion مِّمَّا mimmā of what رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ razaqnāhum We have provided them تَٱللَّهِ tal-lahi By Allah لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ latus'alunna surely you will be asked عَمَّا ʿammā about what كُنتُمْ kuntum you used (to) تَفْتَرُونَ taftarūna invent

Transliteration

WayajAAaloona lima layaAAlamoona naseeban mimma razaqnahum tallahilatus-alunna AAamma kuntum taftaroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And they assign a portion of that which We have given them unto what they know not. By Allah! but ye will indeed be asked concerning (all) that ye used to invent.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And they (even) assign, to things they do not know, a portion out of that which We have bestowed for their sustenance! By Allah, ye shall certainly be called to account for your false inventions.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عن قبائح المشركين الذين عبدوا مع الله غيره من الأصنام والأوثان والأنداد ، وجعلوا لها نصيبا مما رزقهم الله فقالوا : ( هذا لله بزعمهم وهذا لشركائنا فما كان لشركائهم فلا يصل إلى الله [ بغير علم ] وما كان لله فهو يصل إلى شركائهم ) [ الأنعام : 136 ] أي : جعلوا لآلهتهم نصيبا مع الله وفضلوهم أيضا على جانبه ، فأقسم الله تعالى بنفسه الكريمة ليسألنهم عن ذلك الذي افتروه ، وائتفكوه ، وليقابلنهم عليه وليجازينهم أوفر الجزاء في نار جهنم ، فقال : ( تالله لتسألن عما كنتم تفترون )
