قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًا

قَالَ qāla He said أَلَمْ alam Did not أَقُلْ aqul I say إِنَّكَ innaka indeed, you لَن lan never تَسْتَطِيعَ tastaṭīʿa will be able مَعِىَ maʿiya with me صَبْرًۭا ṣabran (to have) patience
Transliteration
Qala alam aqul innaka lan tastateeAAamaAAiya sabra

He said: Did I not tell thee that thou couldst not bear with me?
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?"
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
فعندها قال له الخضر مذكرا بما تقدم من الشرط : ( ألم أقل إنك لن تستطيع معي صبرا ) يعني وهذا الصنيع فعلته قصدا ، وهو من الأمور التي اشترطت معك ألا تنكر علي فيها ، لأنك لم تحط بها خبرا ، ولها داخل هو مصلحة ولم تعلمه أنت .
