Quran 21:73

Surah Al-Anbiyaa, Verse 73

وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَإِقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ وَكَانُوا۟ لَنَا عَٰبِدِينَ

Word by word

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ wajaʿalnāhum And We made them أَئِمَّةًۭ a-immatan leaders يَهْدُونَ yahdūna they guide بِأَمْرِنَا bi-amrinā by Our Command وَأَوْحَيْنَآ wa-awḥaynā And We inspired إِلَيْهِمْ ilayhim to them فِعْلَ fiʿ'la (the) doing ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ l-khayrāti (of) good deeds وَإِقَامَ wa-iqāma and establishment ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ l-ṣalati (of) the prayer وَإِيتَآءَ waītāa and giving ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ ۖ l-zakati (of) zakah وَكَانُوا۟ wakānū and they were لَنَا lanā of Us عَـٰبِدِينَ ʿābidīna worshippers

Transliteration

WajaAAalnahum a-immatan yahdoonabi-amrina waawhayna ilayhim fiAAla alkhayratiwa-iqama assalati wa-eetaa azzakatiwakanoo lana AAabideen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone).

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only).

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( وجعلناهم أئمة ) أي : يقتدى بهم ، ( يهدون بأمرنا ) أي : يدعون إلى الله بإذنه; ولهذا قال : ( وأوحينا إليهم فعل الخيرات وإقام الصلاة وإيتاء الزكاة ) من باب عطف الخاص على العام ، ( وكانوا لنا عابدين ) أي : فاعلين لما يأمرون الناس به .
