Quran 21:9

Surah Al-Anbiyaa, Verse 9

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

Word by word

ثُمَّ thumma Then صَدَقْنَـٰهُمُ ṣadaqnāhumu We fulfilled (for) them ٱلْوَعْدَ l-waʿda the promise فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُمْ fa-anjaynāhum and We saved them وَمَن waman and whom نَّشَآءُ nashāu We willed وَأَهْلَكْنَا wa-ahlaknā and We destroyed ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ l-mus'rifīna the transgressors

Transliteration

Thumma sadaqnahumu alwaAAdafaanjaynahum waman nashao waahlaknaalmusrifeen

Translations

Then we fulfilled the promise unto them. So we delivered them and whom We would, and We destroyed the prodigals.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

In the end We fulfilled to them Our Promise, and We saved them and those whom We pleased, but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ثم صدقناهم الوعد ) أي : الذي وعدهم ربهم : " ليهلكن الظالمين " ، صدقهم الله وعده ففعل ذلك; ولهذا قال : ( فأنجيناهم ومن نشاء ) أي : أتباعهم من المؤمنين ، ( وأهلكنا المسرفين ) أي : المكذبين بما جاءت الرسل به .
