Quran 23:41

Surah Al-Muminoon, Verse 41

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ غُثَآءً فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

Word by word

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ fa-akhadhathumu So seized them ٱلصَّيْحَةُ l-ṣayḥatu the awful cry بِٱلْحَقِّ bil-ḥaqi in truth فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ fajaʿalnāhum and We made them غُثَآءًۭ ۚ ghuthāan (as) rubbish of dead leaves فَبُعْدًۭا fabuʿ'dan So away لِّلْقَوْمِ lil'qawmi with the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers

Transliteration

Faakhathat-humu assayhatubilhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaanfabuAAdan lilqawmi aththalimeen

Translations

So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( فأخذتهم الصيحة بالحق ) أي : وكانوا يستحقون ذلك من الله لكفرهم وطغيانهم .

والظاهر أنه اجتمع عليهم صيحة مع الريح الصرصر العاصف القوي الباردة ، ( تدمر كل شيء بأمر ربها فأصبحوا لا يرى إلا مساكنهم ) [ الأحقاف : 25 ] .

وقوله : ( فجعلناهم غثاء ) أي : صرعى هلكى كغثاء السيل ، وهو الشيء الحقير التافه الهالك الذي لا ينتفع بشيء منه . ( فبعدا للقوم الظالمين ) ، كقوله : ( وما ظلمناهم ولكن كانوا هم الظالمين ) [ الزخرف : 76 ] أي : بكفرهم وعنادهم ومخالفة رسول الله ، فليحذر السامعون أن يكذبوا رسولهم .
