Surah Al-Muminoon, Verse 43

مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ

مَا mā Not تَسْبِقُ tasbiqu can precede مِنْ min any أُمَّةٍ ummatin nation أَجَلَهَا ajalahā its term وَمَا wamā and not يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ yastakhirūna they (can) delay (it)
Transliteration
Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon
Translations

No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it.

No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it).
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
( ما تسبق من أمة أجلها وما يستأخرون ) يعني : بل يؤخذون حسب ما قدر لهم تعالى في كتابه المحفوظ وعلمه قبل كونهم ، أمة بعد أمة ، وقرنا بعد قرن ، وجيلا بعد جيل ، وخلفا بعد سلف .
