Quran 23:44

Surah Al-Muminoon, Verse 44

ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةً رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Word by word

ثُمَّ thumma Then أَرْسَلْنَا arsalnā We sent رُسُلَنَا rusulanā Our Messengers تَتْرَا ۖ tatrā (in) succession كُلَّ kulla Every time مَا mā Every time جَآءَ jāa came أُمَّةًۭ ummatan (to) a nation رَّسُولُهَا rasūluhā its Messenger كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ kadhabūhu they denied him فَأَتْبَعْنَا fa-atbaʿnā so We made (them) follow بَعْضَهُم baʿḍahum some of them بَعْضًۭا baʿḍan others وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ wajaʿalnāhum and We made them أَحَادِيثَ ۚ aḥādītha narrations فَبُعْدًۭا fabuʿ'dan So away لِّقَوْمٍۢ liqawmin with a people لَّا lā not يُؤْمِنُونَ yu'minūna they believe

Transliteration

Thumma arsalna rusulana tatrakulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohufaatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahumahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yu/minoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( ثم أرسلنا رسلنا تترى ) : قال ابن عباس : يعني يتبع بعضهم بعضا . وهذه كقوله تعالى : ( ولقد بعثنا في كل أمة رسولا أن اعبدوا الله واجتنبوا الطاغوت فمنهم من هدى الله ومنهم من حقت عليه الضلالة ) [ النحل : 36 ] ، وقوله : ( كل ما جاء أمة رسولها كذبوه ) يعني : جمهورهم وأكثرهم ، كقوله تعالى : ( يا حسرة على العباد ما يأتيهم من رسول إلا كانوا به يستهزئون ) [ يس : 30 ] .

وقوله : ( فأتبعنا بعضهم بعضا ) أي : أهلكناهم ، كقوله : ( وكم أهلكنا من القرون من بعد نوح ) [ الإسراء : 17 ] .

( وجعلناهم أحاديث ) أي : أخبارا وأحاديث للناس ، كقوله : ( فجعلناهم أحاديث ومزقناهم كل ممزق ) [ الآية ] [ سبأ : 19 ] [ ( فبعدا لقوم لا يؤمنون ) ] .
