Quran 24:47

Surah An-Noor, Verse 47

وَيَقُولُونَ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ وَأَطَعْنَا ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَمَآ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Word by word

وَيَقُولُونَ wayaqūlūna And they say ءَامَنَّا āmannā We believe بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ wabil-rasūli and in the Messenger وَأَطَعْنَا wa-aṭaʿnā and we obey ثُمَّ thumma Then يَتَوَلَّىٰ yatawallā turns away فَرِيقٌۭ farīqun a party مِّنْهُم min'hum of them مِّنۢ min after بَعْدِ baʿdi after ذَٰلِكَ ۚ dhālika that وَمَآ wamā And not أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ulāika those بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ bil-mu'minīna (are) believers

Transliteration

Wayaqooloona amanna billahiwabirrasooli waataAAna thumma yatawallafareequn minhum min baAAdi thalika wama ola-ikabilmu/mineen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And they say: We believe in Allah and the messenger, and we obey; then after that a faction of them turn away. Such are not believers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

They say, "We believe in Allah and in the messenger, and we obey": but even after that, some of them turn away: they are not (really) Believers.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عن صفات المنافقين ، الذين يظهرون خلاف ما يبطنون ، يقولون قولا بألسنتهم : ( آمنا بالله وبالرسول وأطعنا ثم يتولى فريق منهم من بعد ذلك ) أي : يخالفون أقوالهم بأعمالهم ، فيقولون ما لا يفعلون; ولهذا قال تعالى : ( وما أولئك بالمؤمنين ) .
