Quran 25:44

Surah Al-Furqaan, Verse 44

أَمْ تَحْسَبُ أَنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَوْ يَعْقِلُونَ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا كَٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا

Word by word

أَمْ am Or تَحْسَبُ taḥsabu do you think أَنَّ anna that أَكْثَرَهُمْ aktharahum most of them يَسْمَعُونَ yasmaʿūna hear أَوْ aw or يَعْقِلُونَ ۚ yaʿqilūna understand إِنْ in Not هُمْ hum they إِلَّا illā (are) except كَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ ۖ kal-anʿāmi like cattle بَلْ bal Nay هُمْ hum they أَضَلُّ aḍallu (are) more astray سَبِيلًا sabīlan (from the) way

Transliteration

Am tahsabu anna aktharahumyasmaAAoona aw yaAAqiloona in hum illa kal-anAAamibal hum adallu sabeela

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Or deemest thou that most of them hear or understand? They are but as the cattle - nay, but they are farther astray?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Or thinkest thou that most of them listen or understand? They are only like cattle;- nay, they are worse astray in Path.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( أم تحسب أن أكثرهم يسمعون أو يعقلون إن هم إلا كالأنعام بل هم أضل سبيلا ) أي : أسوأ حالا من الأنعام السارحة ، فإن تلك تعقل ما خلقت له ، وهؤلاء خلقوا لعبادة الله وحده لا شريك له ، وهم يعبدون غيره ويشركون به ، مع قيام الحجة عليهم ، وإرسال الرسل إليهم .
