Surah Ash-Shu'araa, Verse 18

قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ

Word by word

قَالَ qāla He said أَلَمْ alam Did not نُرَبِّكَ nurabbika we bring you up فِينَا fīnā among us وَلِيدًۭا walīdan (as) a child وَلَبِثْتَ walabith'ta and you remained فِينَا fīnā among us مِنْ min of عُمُرِكَ ʿumurika your life سِنِينَ sinīna years

Transliteration

Qala alam nurabbika feenawaleedan walabithta feena min AAumurika sineen

(Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us,

(Pharaoh) said: "Did we not cherish thee as a child among us, and didst thou not stay in our midst many years of thy life?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( ألم نربك فينا وليدا ولبثت فينا من عمرك سنين . [ وفعلت فعلتك التي فعلت وأنت من الكافرين ] ) [ أي : أما أنت الذي ربيناه فينا ] ، وفي بيتنا وعلى فراشنا [ وغذيناه ] ، وأنعمنا عليه مدة من السنين ، ثم بعد هذا قابلت ذلك الإحسان بتلك الفعلة ، أن قتلت منا رجلا وجحدت نعمتنا عليك; ولهذا قال :
