Quran 26:4

Surah Ash-Shu'araa, Verse 4

إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ءَايَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَٰقُهُمْ لَهَا خَٰضِعِينَ

Word by word

إِن in If نَّشَأْ nasha We will نُنَزِّلْ nunazzil We can send down عَلَيْهِم ʿalayhim to them مِّنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky ءَايَةًۭ āyatan a Sign فَظَلَّتْ faẓallat so would bend أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْ aʿnāquhum their necks لَهَا lahā to it خَـٰضِعِينَ khāḍiʿīna (in) humility

Transliteration

In nasha/ nunazzil AAalayhim mina assama-iayatan fathallat aAAnaquhum lahakhadiAAeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

If We will, We can send down on them from the sky a portent so that their necks would remain bowed before it.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

If (such) were Our Will, We could send down to them from the sky a Sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال الله تعالى : ( إن نشأ ننزل عليهم من السماء آية فظلت أعناقهم لها خاضعين ) أي : لو شئنا لأنزلنا آية تضطرهم إلى الإيمان قهرا ، ولكنا لا نفعل ذلك; لأنا لا نريد من أحد إلا الإيمان الاختياري; وقال تعالى : ( ولو شاء ربك لآمن من في الأرض كلهم جميعا أفأنت تكره الناس حتى يكونوا مؤمنين ) [ يونس : 99 ] ، وقال : ( ولو شاء ربك لجعل الناس أمة واحدة ولا يزالون مختلفين . إلا من رحم ربك ولذلك خلقهم ) [ هود : 118 ، 119 ] ، فنفذ قدره ، ومضت حكمته ، وقامت حجته البالغة على خلقه بإرسال الرسل إليهم ، وإنزال الكتب عليهم .
