Quran 27:84

Surah An-Naml, Verse 84

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُو قَالَ أَكَذَّبْتُم بِـَٔايَٰتِى وَلَمْ تُحِيطُوا۟ بِهَا عِلْمًا أَمَّاذَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Word by word

حَتَّىٰٓ ḥattā Until إِذَا idhā when جَآءُو jāū they come قَالَ qāla He will say أَكَذَّبْتُم akadhabtum Did you deny بِـَٔايَـٰتِى biāyātī My Signs وَلَمْ walam while not تُحِيطُوا۟ tuḥīṭū you encompassed بِهَا bihā them عِلْمًا ʿil'man (in) knowledge أَمَّاذَا ammādhā or what كُنتُمْ kuntum you used (to) تَعْمَلُونَ taʿmalūna do

Transliteration

Hatta itha jaooqala akaththabtum bi-ayatee walam tuheetoobiha AAilman ammatha kuntum taAAmaloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Till, when they come (before their Lord), He will say: Did ye deny My revelations when ye could not compass them in knowledge, or what was it that ye did?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Until, when they come (before the Judgment-seat), (Allah) will say: "Did ye reject My Signs, though ye comprehended them not in knowledge, or what was it ye did?"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( حتى إذا جاءوا ) أي : أوقفوا بين يدي الله عز وجل ، في مقام المساءلة ، ( قال أكذبتم بآياتي ولم تحيطوا بها علما أم ماذا كنتم تعملون ) أي : ويسألون عن اعتقادهم ، وأعمالهم فلما لم يكونوا من أهل السعادة ، وكانوا كما قال الله تعالى عنهم : ( فلا صدق ولا صلى . ولكن كذب وتولى ) [ القيامة : 31 ، 32 ] ، فحينئذ قامت عليهم الحجة ، ولم يكن لهم عذر يعتذرون به ، كما قال تعالى : ( هذا يوم لا ينطقون ولا يؤذن لهم فيعتذرون . ويل يومئذ للمكذبين ) [ المرسلات : 35 ، 37 ] ،
