Quran 3:139

Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 139

وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

Word by word

وَلَا walā And (do) not تَهِنُوا۟ tahinū weaken وَلَا walā and (do) not تَحْزَنُوا۟ taḥzanū grieve وَأَنتُمُ wa-antumu and you (will be) ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ l-aʿlawna [the] superior إِن in if كُنتُم kuntum you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ mu'minīna believers

Transliteration

Wala tahinoo wala tahzanoowaantumu al-aAAlawna in kuntum mu/mineen

Translations

Faint not nor grieve, for ye will overcome them if ye are (indeed) believers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: For ye must gain mastery if ye are true in Faith.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال مسليا للمؤمنين : ( ولا تهنوا ) أي : لا تضعفوا بسبب ما جرى ( ولا تحزنوا وأنتم الأعلون إن كنتم مؤمنين ) أي العاقبة والنصرة لكم أيها المؤمنون .
