Quran 30:8

Surah Ar-Room, Verse 8

أَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِم مَّا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِلِقَآئِ رَبِّهِمْ لَكَٰفِرُونَ

Word by word

أَوَلَمْ awalam Do not يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ yatafakkarū they ponder فِىٓ fī within أَنفُسِهِم ۗ anfusihim themselves مَّا mā Not خَلَقَ khalaqa Allah (has) created ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah (has) created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ wal-arḍa and the earth وَمَا wamā and what بَيْنَهُمَآ baynahumā (is) between them إِلَّا illā except بِٱلْحَقِّ bil-ḥaqi in truth وَأَجَلٍۢ wa-ajalin and (for) a term مُّسَمًّۭى ۗ musamman appointed وَإِنَّ wa-inna And indeed كَثِيرًۭا kathīran many مِّنَ mina of ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi the people بِلِقَآئِ biliqāi in (the) meeting رَبِّهِمْ rabbihim (with) their Lord لَكَـٰفِرُونَ lakāfirūna surely (are) disbelievers

Transliteration

Awa lam yatafakkaroo fee anfusihim makhalaqa Allahu assamawati wal-ardawama baynahuma illa bilhaqqiwaajalin musamman wa-inna katheeran mina annasibiliqa-i rabbihim lakafiroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى منبها على التفكر في مخلوقاته ، الدالة على وجوده وانفراده بخلقها ، وأنه لا إله غيره ولا رب سواه ، فقال : ( أولم يتفكروا في أنفسهم ) يعني به النظر والتدبر والتأمل لخلق الله الأشياء من العالم العلوي والسفلي ، وما بينهما من المخلوقات المتنوعة ، والأجناس المختلفة ، فيعلموا أنها ما خلقت سدى ولا باطلا بل بالحق ، وأنها مؤجلة إلى أجل مسمى ، وهو يوم القيامة; ولهذا قال : ( وإن كثيرا من الناس بلقاء ربهم لكافرون ) .
