Quran 31:22

Surah Luqman, Verse 22

وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْأُمُورِ

Word by word

۞ وَمَن waman And whoever يُسْلِمْ yus'lim submits وَجْهَهُۥٓ wajhahu his face إِلَى ilā to ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah وَهُوَ wahuwa while he مُحْسِنٌۭ muḥ'sinun (is) a good-doer فَقَدِ faqadi then indeed ٱسْتَمْسَكَ is'tamsaka he has grasped بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ bil-ʿur'wati the handhold ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ l-wuth'qā the most trustworthy وَإِلَى wa-ilā And to ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (is the) end ٱلْأُمُورِ l-umūri (of) the matters

Transliteration

Waman yuslim wajhahu ila Allahiwahuwa muhsinun faqadi istamsaka bilAAurwatialwuthqa wa-ila Allahi AAaqibatual-omoor

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Whosoever surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good, he verily hath grasped the firm hand-hold. Unto Allah belongeth the sequel of all things.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Whoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a doer of good, has grasped indeed the most trustworthy hand-hold: and with Allah rests the End and Decision of (all) affairs.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عمن أسلم وجهه لله ، أي : أخلص له العمل وانقاد لأمره واتبع شرعه; ولهذا قال : ( وهو محسن ) أي : في عمله ، باتباع ما به أمر ، وترك ما عنه زجر ، ( فقد استمسك بالعروة الوثقى ) أي : فقد أخذ موثقا من الله متينا أنه لا يعذبه ، ( وإلى الله عاقبة الأمور )
