Quran 32:9

Surah As-Sajda, Verse 9

ثُمَّ سَوَّىٰهُ وَنَفَخَ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِهِۦ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

Word by word

ثُمَّ thumma Then سَوَّىٰهُ sawwāhu He fashioned him وَنَفَخَ wanafakha and breathed فِيهِ fīhi into him مِن min from رُّوحِهِۦ ۖ rūḥihi His spirit وَجَعَلَ wajaʿala and made لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلسَّمْعَ l-samʿa the hearing وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ wal-abṣāra and the sight وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ wal-afidata and feelings قَلِيلًۭا qalīlan little مَّا mā [what] تَشْكُرُونَ tashkurūna thanks you give

Transliteration

Thumma sawwahu wanafakha feehi min roohihiwajaAAala lakumu assamAAa wal-absara wal-af-idataqaleelan ma tashkuroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Then He fashioned him and breathed into him of His Spirit; and appointed for you hearing and sight and hearts. Small thanks give ye!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit. And He gave you (the faculties of) hearing and sight and feeling (and understanding): little thanks do ye give!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( ثم سواه ) يعني : آدم ، لما خلقه من تراب خلقه سويا مستقيما ، ( ونفخ فيه من روحه وجعل لكم السمع والأبصار والأفئدة ) ، يعني العقول ، ( قليلا ما تشكرون ) أي : بهذه القوى التي رزقكموها الله عز وجل . فالسعيد من استعملها في طاعة ربه عز وجل .
