Quran 35:13

Surah Faatir, Verse 13

يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ يَجْرِى لِأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِن قِطْمِيرٍ

Word by word

يُولِجُ yūliju He causes to enter ٱلَّيْلَ al-layla the night فِى fī in (to) ٱلنَّهَارِ l-nahāri the day وَيُولِجُ wayūliju and He causes to enter ٱلنَّهَارَ l-nahāra the day فِى fī in (to) ٱلَّيْلِ al-layli the night وَسَخَّرَ wasakhara and He has subjected ٱلشَّمْسَ l-shamsa the sun وَٱلْقَمَرَ wal-qamara and the moon كُلٌّۭ kullun each يَجْرِى yajrī running لِأَجَلٍۢ li-ajalin for a term مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ musamman appointed ذَٰلِكُمُ dhālikumu That (is) ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah رَبُّكُمْ rabbukum your Lord لَهُ lahu for Him ٱلْمُلْكُ ۚ l-mul'ku (is) the Dominion وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those whom تَدْعُونَ tadʿūna you invoke مِن min besides Him دُونِهِۦ dūnihi besides Him مَا mā not يَمْلِكُونَ yamlikūna they possess مِن min even قِطْمِيرٍ qiṭ'mīrin (as much as) the membrane of a date-seed

Transliteration

Yooliju allayla fee annahariwayooliju annahara fee allayli wasakhkhara ashshamsawalqamara kullun yajree li-ajalin musamman thalikumuAllahu rabbukum lahu almulku wallatheenatadAAoona min doonihi ma yamlikoona min qitmeer

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

He maketh the night to pass into the day and He maketh the day to pass into the night. He hath subdued the sun and moon to service. Each runneth unto an appointed term. Such is Allah, your Lord; His is the Sovereignty; and those unto whom ye pray instead of Him own not so much as the white spot on a date-stone.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

He merges Night into Day, and he merges Day into Night, and he has subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law): each one runs its course for a term appointed. Such is Allah your Lord: to Him belongs all Dominion. And those whom ye invoke besides Him have not the least power.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وهذا أيضا من قدرته التامة وسلطانه العظيم ، في تسخيره الليل بظلامه والنهار بضيائه ، ويأخذ من طول هذا فيزيده في قصر هذا فيعتدلان . ثم يأخذ من هذا في هذا ، فيطول هذا ويقصر هذا ، ثم يتقارضان صيفا وشتاء ، ( وسخر الشمس والقمر ) أي : والنجوم السيارات ، والثوابت الثاقبات بأضوائهن أجرام السماوات ، الجميع يسيرون بمقدار معين ، وعلى منهاج مقنن محرر ، تقديرا من عزيز عليم .

( كل يجري لأجل مسمى ) أي : إلى يوم القيامة .

( ذلكم الله ربكم ) أي : الذي فعل هذا هو الرب العظيم ، الذي لا إله غيره ، ( والذين تدعون من دونه ) أي : من الأنداد والأصنام التي هي على صورة من تزعمون من الملائكة المقربين ، ( ما يملكون من قطمير ) .

قال ابن عباس ، ومجاهد ، وعكرمة ، وعطاء وعطية العوفي ، والحسن ، وقتادة وغيرهم : القطمير : هو اللفافة التي تكون على نواة التمرة ، أي : لا يملكون من السماوات والأرض شيئا ، ولا بمقدار هذا القطمير .
