Quran 35:14

Surah Faatir, Verse 14

إِن تَدْعُوهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ دُعَآءَكُمْ وَلَوْ سَمِعُوا۟ مَا ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُونَ بِشِرْكِكُمْ وَلَا يُنَبِّئُكَ مِثْلُ خَبِيرٍ

Word by word

إِن in If تَدْعُوهُمْ tadʿūhum you invoke them لَا lā not يَسْمَعُوا۟ yasmaʿū they hear دُعَآءَكُمْ duʿāakum your call وَلَوْ walaw and if سَمِعُوا۟ samiʿū they heard مَا mā not ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ is'tajābū they (would) respond لَكُمْ ۖ lakum to you وَيَوْمَ wayawma And (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection يَكْفُرُونَ yakfurūna they will deny بِشِرْكِكُمْ ۚ bishir'kikum your association وَلَا walā And none يُنَبِّئُكَ yunabbi-uka can inform you مِثْلُ mith'lu like خَبِيرٍۢ khabīrin (the) All-Aware

Transliteration

In tadAAoohum la yasmaAAoo duAAaakumwalaw samiAAoo ma istajaboo lakum wayawma alqiyamatiyakfuroona bishirkikum wala yunabbi-oka mithlu khabeer

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

If ye pray unto them they hear not your prayer, and if they heard they could not grant it you. On the Day of Resurrection they will disown association with you. None can inform you like Him Who is Aware.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

If ye invoke them, they will not listen to your call, and if they were to listen, they cannot answer your (prayer). On the Day of Judgment they will reject your "Partnership". and none, (O man!) can tell thee (the Truth) like the One Who is acquainted with all things.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( إن تدعوهم لا يسمعوا دعاءكم ) يعني الآلهة التي تدعونها من دون الله لا يسمعون دعاءكم ; لأنها جماد لا أرواح فيها ( ولو سمعوا ما استجابوا لكم ) أي : لا يقدرون على ما تطلبون منها ، ( ويوم القيامة يكفرون بشرككم ) ، أي : يتبرءون منكم ، كما قال تعالى : ( ومن أضل ممن يدعو من دون الله من لا يستجيب له إلى يوم القيامة وهم عن دعائهم غافلون وإذا حشر الناس كانوا لهم أعداء وكانوا بعبادتهم كافرين ) [ الأحقاف : 5 ، 6 ] ، وقال : ( واتخذوا من دون الله آلهة ليكونوا لهم عزا كلا سيكفرون بعبادتهم ويكونون عليهم ضدا ) [ مريم : 81 ، 82 ] .

وقوله : ( ولا ينبئك مثل خبير ) أي : ولا يخبرك بعواقب الأمور ومآلها وما تصير إليه ، مثل خبير بها .

قال قتادة : يعني نفسه تبارك وتعالى ، فإنه أخبر بالواقع لا محالة .
