Quran 35:44

Surah Faatir, Verse 44

أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ وَكَانُوٓا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعْجِزَهُۥ مِن شَىْءٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَلَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَلِيمًا قَدِيرًا

Word by word

أَوَلَمْ awalam Have they not يَسِيرُوا۟ yasīrū traveled فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the land فَيَنظُرُوا۟ fayanẓurū and seen كَيْفَ kayfa how كَانَ kāna was عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (the) end ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who مِن min (were) before them قَبْلِهِمْ qablihim (were) before them وَكَانُوٓا۟ wakānū And they were أَشَدَّ ashadda stronger مِنْهُمْ min'hum than them قُوَّةًۭ ۚ quwwatan (in) power وَمَا wamā But not كَانَ kāna is ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah لِيُعْجِزَهُۥ liyuʿ'jizahu that can escape (from) Him مِن min any شَىْءٍۢ shayin thing فِى fī in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَلَا walā and not فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ l-arḍi the earth إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, He كَانَ kāna is عَلِيمًۭا ʿalīman All-Knower قَدِيرًۭا qadīran All-Powerful

Transliteration

Awa lam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihimwakanoo ashadda minhum quwwatan wama kanaAllahu liyuAAjizahu min shay-in fee assamawatiwala fee al-ardi innahu kana AAaleemanqadeera

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them, and they were mightier than these in power? Allah is not such that aught in the heavens or in the earth escapeth Him. Lo! He is the Wise, the Mighty.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them,- though they were superior to them in strength? Nor is Allah to be frustrated by anything whatever in the heavens or on earth: for He is All-Knowing. All-Powerful.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : قل يا محمد لهؤلاء المكذبين بما جئتهم به من الرسالة : سيروا في الأرض ، فانظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين كذبوا الرسل ؟ كيف دمر الله عليهم وللكافرين أمثالها ، فخليت منهم منازلهم ، وسلبوا ما كانوا فيه من النعم بعد كمال القوة ، وكثرة العدد والعدد ، وكثرة الأموال والأولاد ، فما أغنى ذلك شيئا ، ولا دفع عنهم من عذاب الله من شيء ، لما جاء أمر ربك لأنه تعالى لا يعجزه شيء ، إذا أراد كونه في السماوات والأرض ؟ ( إنه كان عليما قديرا ) أي : عليم بجميع الكائنات ، قدير على مجموعها .
