Quran 36:23

Surah Yaseen, Verse 23

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ

Word by word

ءَأَتَّخِذُ a-attakhidhu Should I take مِن min besides Him دُونِهِۦٓ dūnihi besides Him ءَالِهَةً ālihatan gods إِن in If يُرِدْنِ yurid'ni intends for me ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ l-raḥmānu the Most Gracious بِضُرٍّۢ biḍurrin any harm لَّا lā not تُغْنِ tugh'ni will avail عَنِّى ʿannī [from] me شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ shafāʿatuhum their intercession شَيْـًۭٔا shayan (in) anything وَلَا walā and not يُنقِذُونِ yunqidhūni they (can) save me

Transliteration

Aattakhithu min doonihi alihatanin yuridni arrahmanu bidurrin la tughniAAannee shafaAAatuhum shay-an wala yunqithoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Shall I take (other) gods in place of Him when, if the Beneficent should wish me any harm, their intercession will avail me naught, nor can they save?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"Shall I take (other) gods besides Him? If (Allah) Most Gracious should intend some adversity for me, of no use whatever will be their intercession for me, nor can they deliver me.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

أأتخذ من دونه آلهة ) ؟ استفهام إنكار وتوبيخ وتقريع ، ( إن يردن الرحمن بضر لا تغن عني شفاعتهم شيئا ولا ينقذون ) أي : هذه الآلهة التي تعبدونها من دونه لا يملكون من الأمر شيئا . فإن الله لو أرادني بسوء ، ( فلا كاشف له إلا هو ) [ يونس : 107 ] وهذه الأصنام لا تملك دفع ذلك ولا منعه ، ولا ينقذونني مما أنا فيه ،
