Quran 36:47

Surah Yaseen, Verse 47

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ

Word by word

وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when قِيلَ qīla it is said لَهُمْ lahum to them أَنفِقُوا۟ anfiqū Spend مِمَّا mimmā from what رَزَقَكُمُ razaqakumu (has) provided you ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah قَالَ qāla Said ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieved لِلَّذِينَ lilladhīna to those who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ āmanū believed أَنُطْعِمُ anuṭ'ʿimu Should we feed مَن man whom لَّوْ law if يَشَآءُ yashāu Allah willed ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah willed أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ aṭʿamahu He would have fed him إِنْ in Not أَنتُمْ antum (are) you إِلَّا illā except فِى fī in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ ḍalālin an error مُّبِينٍۢ mubīnin clear

Transliteration

Wa-itha qeela lahum anfiqoo mimmarazaqakumu Allahu qala allatheena kafaroolillatheena amanoo anutAAimu man law yashaoAllahu atAAamahu in antum illa fee dalalinmubeen

Translations

And when it is said unto them: Spend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Shall we feed those whom Allah, if He willed, would feed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest.

And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) with which Allah has provided you," the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Shall we then feed those whom, if Allah had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)?- Ye are in nothing but manifest error."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( وإذا قيل لهم أنفقوا مما رزقكم الله ) أي : وإذا أمروا بالإنفاق مما رزقهم الله على الفقراء والمحاويج من المسلمين ( قال الذين كفروا للذين آمنوا ) أي : عن الذين آمنوا من الفقراء ، أي : قالوا لمن أمرهم من المؤمنين بالإنفاق محاجين لهم فيما أمروهم به : ( أنطعم من لو يشاء الله أطعمه ) أي : وهؤلاء الذين أمرتمونا بالإنفاق عليهم ، لو شاء الله لأغناهم ولأطعمهم من رزقه ، فنحن نوافق مشيئة الله فيهم ، ( إن أنتم إلا في ضلال مبين ) أي : في أمركم لنا بذلك .

قال ابن جرير : ويحتمل أن يكون من قول الله للكفار حين ناظروا المسلمين وردوا عليهم ، فقال لهم : ( إن أنتم إلا في ضلال مبين ) ، وفي هذا نظر .
