Quran 36:60

Surah Yaseen, Verse 60

أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنَ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ

Word by word

۞ أَلَمْ alam Did not أَعْهَدْ aʿhad I enjoin إِلَيْكُمْ ilaykum upon you يَـٰبَنِىٓ yābanī O Children of Adam ءَادَمَ ādama O Children of Adam أَن an That لَّا lā (do) not تَعْبُدُوا۟ taʿbudū worship ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ l-shayṭāna the Shaitaan إِنَّهُۥ innahu indeed, he لَكُمْ lakum (is) for you عَدُوٌّۭ ʿaduwwun an enemy مُّبِينٌۭ mubīnun clear

Transliteration

Alam aAAhad ilaykum ya banee adamaan la taAAbudoo ashshaytana innahu lakumAAaduwwun mubeen

Did I not charge you, O ye sons of Adam, that ye worship not the devil - Lo! he is your open foe! -

"Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله تعالى : ( ألم أعهد إليكم يابني آدم أن لا تعبدوا الشيطان إنه لكم عدو مبين ) : هذا تقريع من الله للكفرة من بني آدم ، الذين أطاعوا الشيطان وهو عدو لهم مبين ، وعصوا الرحمن وهو الذي خلقهم ورزقهم
