Quran 39:17

Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 17

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱجْتَنَبُوا۟ ٱلطَّٰغُوتَ أَن يَعْبُدُوهَا وَأَنَابُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ لَهُمُ ٱلْبُشْرَىٰ فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِ

Word by word

وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who ٱجْتَنَبُوا۟ ij'tanabū avoid ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ l-ṭāghūta the false gods أَن an lest يَعْبُدُوهَا yaʿbudūhā they worship them وَأَنَابُوٓا۟ wa-anābū and turn إِلَى ilā to ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah لَهُمُ lahumu for them ٱلْبُشْرَىٰ ۚ l-bush'rā (are) glad tidings فَبَشِّرْ fabashir So give glad tidings عِبَادِ ʿibādi (to) My slaves

Transliteration

Wallatheena ijtanaboo attaghootaan yaAAbudooha waanaboo ila Allahilahumu albushra fabashshir AAibad

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And those who put away false gods lest they should worship them and turn to Allah in repentance, for them there are glad tidings. Therefor give good tidings (O Muhammad) to My bondmen

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those who eschew Evil,- and fall not into its worship,- and turn to Allah (in repentance),- for them is Good News: so announce the Good News to My Servants,-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال عبد الرحمن بن زيد بن أسلم ، عن أبيه : ( والذين اجتنبوا الطاغوت أن يعبدوها ) نزلت في زيد بن عمرو بن نفيل ، وأبي ذر ، وسلمان الفارسي .

والصحيح أنها شاملة لهم ولغيرهم ، ممن اجتنب عبادة الأوثان ، وأناب إلى عبادة الرحمن . فهؤلاء هم الذين لهم البشرى في الحياة الدنيا وفي الآخرة .
