Quran 39:18

Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 18

ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقَوْلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُۥٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

Word by word

ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those who يَسْتَمِعُونَ yastamiʿūna they listen (to) ٱلْقَوْلَ l-qawla the Word فَيَتَّبِعُونَ fayattabiʿūna then follow أَحْسَنَهُۥٓ ۚ aḥsanahu the best thereof أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ulāika those ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) they whom هَدَىٰهُمُ hadāhumu Allah has guided them ٱللَّهُ ۖ l-lahu Allah has guided them وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ wa-ulāika and those هُمْ hum are [they] أُو۟لُوا۟ ulū the men of understanding ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ l-albābi the men of understanding

Transliteration

Allatheena yastamiAAoona alqawlafayattabiAAoona ahsanahu ola-ika allatheenahadahumu Allahu waola-ika hum oloo al-albab

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Who hear advice and follow the best thereof. Such are those whom Allah guideth, and such are men of understanding.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those who listen to the Word, and follow the best (meaning) in it: those are the ones whom Allah has guided, and those are the ones endued with understanding.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( فبشر عباد الذين يستمعون القول فيتبعون أحسنه ) أي : يفهمونه ويعملون بما فيه ، كقوله تعالى لموسى حين آتاه التوراة : ( فخذها بقوة وأمر قومك يأخذوا بأحسنها ) [ الأعراف : 145 ] .

( أولئك الذين هداهم الله ) أي : المتصفون بهذه الصفة هم الذين هداهم الله في الدنيا والآخرة ، أي : ذوو العقول الصحيحة ، والفطر المستقيمة .
