Quran 39:26

Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 26

فَأَذَاقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخِزْىَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ

Word by word

فَأَذَاقَهُمُ fa-adhāqahumu So Allah made them ٱللَّهُ l-lahu So Allah made them ٱلْخِزْىَ l-khiz'ya the disgrace فِى fī in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ l-ḥayati the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ l-dun'yā (of) the world وَلَعَذَابُ walaʿadhābu and certainly (the) punishment ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati (of) the Hereafter أَكْبَرُ ۚ akbaru (is) greater لَوْ law if كَانُوا۟ kānū they يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna knew

Transliteration

Faathaqahumu Allahu alkhizyafee alhayati addunya walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Thus Allah made them taste humiliation in the life of the world, and verily the doom of the Hereafter will be greater if they did but know.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater is the punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( فأذاقهم الله الخزي في الحياة الدنيا ) أي : بما أنزل بهم من العذاب والنكال وتشفي المؤمنين بهم ، فليحذر المخاطبون من ذلك ، فإنهم قد كذبوا أشرف الرسل ، وخاتم الأنبياء ، والذي أعده الله لهم في الآخرة من العذاب الشديد أعظم مما أصابهم في الدنيا ; ولهذا قال : ( ولعذاب الآخرة أكبر لو كانوا يعلمون ) .
