Quran 40:53

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 53

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَأَوْرَثْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ

Word by word

وَلَقَدْ walaqad And certainly ءَاتَيْنَا ātaynā We gave مُوسَى mūsā Musa ٱلْهُدَىٰ l-hudā the guidance وَأَوْرَثْنَا wa-awrathnā and We caused to inherit بَنِىٓ banī (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ is'rāīla (the) Children of Israel ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book

Transliteration

Walaqad atayna moosaalhuda waawrathna banee isra-eela alkitab

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And We verily gave Moses the guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

We did aforetime give Moses the (Book of) Guidance, and We gave the book in inheritance to the Children of Israel,-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ولقد آتينا موسى الهدى ) وهو ما بعثه الله به من الهدى والنور ، ( وأورثنا بني إسرائيل الكتاب ) أي : جعلنا لهم العاقبة ، وأورثناهم بلاد فرعون وأمواله وحواصله وأرضه ، بما صبروا على طاعة الله واتباع رسوله موسى ، عليه السلام ، وفي الكتاب الذي أورثوه - وهو التوراة -
