Quran 45:17

Surah Al-Jaathiya, Verse 17

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُم بَيِّنَٰتٍ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ فَمَا ٱخْتَلَفُوٓا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْضِى بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

Word by word

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم waātaynāhum And We gave them بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ bayyinātin clear proofs مِّنَ mina of ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ l-amri the matter فَمَا famā And not ٱخْتَلَفُوٓا۟ ikh'talafū they differed إِلَّا illā except مِنۢ min after بَعْدِ baʿdi after مَا mā [what] جَآءَهُمُ jāahumu came to them ٱلْعِلْمُ l-ʿil'mu the knowledge بَغْيًۢا baghyan (out of) envy بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ baynahum between themselves إِنَّ inna Indeed رَبَّكَ rabbaka your Lord يَقْضِى yaqḍī will judge بَيْنَهُمْ baynahum between them يَوْمَ yawma (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection فِيمَا fīmā about what كَانُوا۟ kānū they used to فِيهِ fīhi therein يَخْتَلِفُونَ yakhtalifūna differ

Transliteration

Waataynahum bayyinatinmina al-amri fama ikhtalafoo illa min baAAdi majaahumu alAAilmu baghyan baynahum inna rabbaka yaqdeebaynahum yawma alqiyamati feema kanoo feehiyakhtalifoon

Translations

And gave them plain commandments. And they differed not until after the knowledge came unto them, through rivalry among themselves. Lo! thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that wherein they used to differ.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And We granted them Clear Signs in affairs (of Religion): it was only after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into schisms, through insolent envy among themselves. Verily thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment as to those matters in which they set up differences.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( وآتيناهم بينات من الأمر ) أي : حججا وبراهين وأدلة قاطعات ، فقامت عليهم الحجج ثم اختلفوا بعد ذلك من بعد قيام الحجة ، وإنما كان ذلك بغيا منهم على بعضهم بعضا ، ( إن ربك ) يا محمد ( يقضي بينهم يوم القيامة فيما كانوا فيه يختلفون ) أي : سيفصل بينهم بحكمه العدل . وهذا فيه تحذير لهذه الأمة أن تسلك مسلكهم ، وأن تقصد منهجهم ;
