Quran 45:35

Surah Al-Jaathiya, Verse 35

ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّكُمُ ٱتَّخَذْتُمْ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ هُزُوًا وَغَرَّتْكُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا يُخْرَجُونَ مِنْهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ

Word by word

ذَٰلِكُم dhālikum That بِأَنَّكُمُ bi-annakumu (is) because you ٱتَّخَذْتُمْ ittakhadhtum took ءَايَـٰتِ āyāti (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah هُزُوًۭا huzuwan (in) ridicule وَغَرَّتْكُمُ wagharratkumu and deceived you ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ l-ḥayatu the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ l-dun'yā (of) the world فَٱلْيَوْمَ fal-yawma So this Day لَا lā not يُخْرَجُونَ yukh'rajūna they will be brought forth مِنْهَا min'hā from it وَلَا walā and not هُمْ hum they يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ yus'taʿtabūna will be asked to appease

Transliteration

Thalikum bi-annakumu ittakhathtumayati Allahi huzuwan wagharratkumu alhayatuaddunya falyawma la yukhrajoonaminha wala hum yustaAAtaboon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

This, forasmuch as ye made the revelations of Allah a jest, and the life of the world beguiled you. Therefor this day they come not forth from thence, nor can they make amends.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"This, because ye used to take the Signs of Allah in jest, and the life of the world deceived you:" (From) that Day, therefore, they shall not be taken out thence, nor shall they be received into Grace.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( ذلكم بأنكم اتخذتم آيات الله هزوا ) أي : إنما جازيناكم هذا الجزاء لأنكم اتخذتم حجج الله عليكم سخريا ، تسخرون وتستهزئون بها ، ( وغرتكم الحياة الدنيا ) أي : خدعتكم فاطمأننتم إليها ، فأصبحتم من الخاسرين ; ولهذا قال : ( فاليوم لا يخرجون منها ) أي : من النار ( ولا هم يستعتبون ) أي : لا يطلب منهم العتبى ، بل يعذبون بغير حساب ولا عتاب ، كما تدخل طائفة من المؤمنين الجنة بغير عذاب ولا حساب .
