Quran 47:10

Surah Muhammad, Verse 10

أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَٰلُهَا

Word by word

۞ أَفَلَمْ afalam Do not يَسِيرُوا۟ yasīrū they travel فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth فَيَنظُرُوا۟ fayanẓurū and see كَيْفَ kayfa how كَانَ kāna was عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (the) end ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those مِن min before them قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ qablihim before them دَمَّرَ dammara Allah destroyed ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah destroyed عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ ʿalayhim [over] them وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ walil'kāfirīna and for the disbelievers أَمْثَـٰلُهَا amthāluhā its likeness

Transliteration

Afalam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihimdammara Allahu AAalayhim walilkafireena amthaluha

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Have they not travelled in the land to see the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? Allah wiped them out. And for the disbelievers there will be the like thereof.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them (who did evil)? Allah brought utter destruction on them, and similar (fates await) those who reject Allah.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : ( أفلم يسيروا ) يعني : المشركين بالله المكذبين لرسوله ( في الأرض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبلهم دمر الله عليهم ) أي : عاقبهم بتكذيبهم وكفرهم ، أي : ونجى المؤمنين من بين أظهرهم ; ولهذا قال : ( وللكافرين أمثالها )
