Quran 48:20

Surah Al-Fath, Verse 20

وَعَدَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَغَانِمَ كَثِيرَةً تَأْخُذُونَهَا فَعَجَّلَ لَكُمْ هَٰذِهِۦ وَكَفَّ أَيْدِىَ ٱلنَّاسِ عَنكُمْ وَلِتَكُونَ ءَايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

Word by word

وَعَدَكُمُ waʿadakumu Allah has promised you ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah has promised you مَغَانِمَ maghānima spoils of war كَثِيرَةًۭ kathīratan much تَأْخُذُونَهَا takhudhūnahā that you will take it فَعَجَّلَ faʿajjala and He has hastened لَكُمْ lakum for you هَـٰذِهِۦ hādhihi this وَكَفَّ wakaffa and has withheld أَيْدِىَ aydiya (the) hands ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi (of) the people عَنكُمْ ʿankum from you وَلِتَكُونَ walitakūna that it may be ءَايَةًۭ āyatan a sign لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ lil'mu'minīna for the believers وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ wayahdiyakum and He may guide you صِرَٰطًۭا ṣirāṭan (to the) Path مُّسْتَقِيمًۭا mus'taqīman Straight

Transliteration

WaAAadakumu Allahu maghanimakatheeratan ta/khuthoonaha faAAajjala lakum hathihiwakaffa aydiya annasi AAankum walitakoona ayatanlilmu/mineena wayahdiyakum siratan mustaqeema

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Allah promiseth you much booty that ye will capture, and hath given you this in advance, and hath withheld men's hands from you, that it may be a token for the believers, and that He may guide you on a right path.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Allah has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path;

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال مجاهد في قوله : ( وعدكم الله مغانم كثيرة تأخذونها ) : هي جميع المغانم إلى اليوم ، ( فعجل لكم هذه ) يعني : فتح خيبر .

وروى العوفي عن ابن عباس : ( فعجل لكم هذه ) يعني : صلح الحديبية .

( وكف أيدي الناس عنكم ) أي : لم ينلكم سوء مما كان أعداؤكم أضمروه لكم من المحاربة والقتال . وكذلك كف أيدي الناس [ عنكم ] الذين خلفتموهم وراء أظهركم عن عيالكم وحريمكم ، ( ولتكون آية للمؤمنين ) أي : يعتبرون بذلك ، فإن الله حافظهم وناصرهم على سائر الأعداء ، مع قلة عددهم ، وليعلموا بصنيع الله هذا بهم أنه العليم بعواقب الأمور ، وأن الخيرة فيما يختاره لعباده المؤمنين وإن كرهوه في الظاهر ، كما قال : ( وعسى أن تكرهوا شيئا وهو خير لكم ) [ البقرة : 216 ] .

( ويهديكم صراطا مستقيما ) أي : بسبب انقيادكم لأمره واتباعكم طاعته ، وموافقتكم رسوله .
