Surah Al-Maaida, Verse 17

لَّقَدْ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ قُلْ فَمَن يَمْلِكُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا إِنْ أَرَادَ أَن يُهْلِكَ ٱلْمَسِيحَ ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Word by word

لَّقَدْ laqad Certainly كَفَرَ kafara disbelieved ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who قَالُوٓا۟ qālū said إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah هُوَ huwa He ٱلْمَسِيحُ l-masīḥu (is) the Messiah ٱبْنُ ub'nu son مَرْيَمَ ۚ maryama (of) Maryam قُلْ qul Say فَمَن faman Then who يَمْلِكُ yamliku has power مِنَ mina against ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah شَيْـًٔا shayan (in) anything إِنْ in if أَرَادَ arāda He intends أَن an to يُهْلِكَ yuh'lika destroy ٱلْمَسِيحَ l-masīḥa the Messiah ٱبْنَ ib'na son مَرْيَمَ maryama (of) Maryam وَأُمَّهُۥ wa-ummahu and his mother وَمَن waman and whoever فِى fī (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth جَمِيعًۭا ۗ jamīʿan all وَلِلَّهِ walillahi And for Allah مُلْكُ mul'ku (is the) dominion ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ wal-arḍi and the earth وَمَا wamā and what بَيْنَهُمَا ۚ baynahumā (is) between both of them يَخْلُقُ yakhluqu He creates مَا mā what يَشَآءُ ۚ yashāu He wills وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu and Allah عَلَىٰ ʿalā (is) on كُلِّ kulli every شَىْءٍۢ shayin thing قَدِيرٌۭ qadīrun All-Powerful

Transliteration

Laqad kafara allatheena qalooinna Allaha huwa almaseehu ibnu maryama qul famanyamliku mina Allahi shay-an in arada an yuhlikaalmaseeha ibna maryama waommahu waman fee al-ardijameeAAan walillahi mulku assamawatiwal-ardi wama baynahuma yakhluqu mayashao wallahu AAala kulli shay-inqadeer

Translations

They indeed have disbelieved who say: Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. Say: Who then can do aught against Allah, if He had willed to destroy the Messiah son of Mary, and his mother and everyone on earth? Allah's is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. He createth what He will. And Allah is Able to do all things.

In blasphemy indeed are those that say that Allah is Christ the son of Mary. Say: "Who then hath the least power against Allah, if His will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and all every - one that is on the earth? For to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between. He createth what He pleaseth. For Allah hath power over all things."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا وحاكما بكفر النصارى في ادعائهم في المسيح ابن مريم - وهو عبد من عباد الله ، وخلق من خلقه - أنه هو الله الحكم بكفر النصارى ، تعالى الله عن قولهم علوا كبيرا .

ثم قال مخبرا عن قدرته على الأشياء وكونها تحت قهره وسلطانه : ( قل فمن يملك من الله شيئا إن أراد أن يهلك المسيح ابن مريم وأمه ومن في الأرض جميعا ) أي : لو أراد ذلك ، فمن ذا الذي كان يمنعه ؟ أو من ذا الذي يقدر على صرفه عن ذلك؟

ثم قال : ( ولله ملك السماوات والأرض وما بينهما يخلق ما يشاء ) أي : جميع الموجودات ملكه وخلقه ، وهو القادر على ما يشاء ، لا يسأل عما يفعل ، لقدرته وسلطانه ، وعدله وعظمته ، وهذا رد على النصارى عليهم لعائن الله المتتابعة إلى يوم القيامة .
