Surah Al-Waaqia, Verse 45

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ

إِنَّهُمْ innahum Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ kānū were قَبْلَ qabla before ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that مُتْرَفِينَ mut'rafīna indulging in affluence
Transliteration
Innahum kanoo qabla thalikamutrafeen
Translations

Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury),
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
ثم ذكر تعالى استحقاقهم لذلك ، فقال تعالى : ( إنهم كانوا قبل ذلك مترفين ) أي : كانوا في الدار الدنيا منعمين مقبلين على لذات أنفسهم ، لا يلوون على ما جاءتهم به الرسل .
