Quran 59:12

Surah Al-Hashr, Verse 12

لَئِنْ أُخْرِجُوا۟ لَا يَخْرُجُونَ مَعَهُمْ وَلَئِن قُوتِلُوا۟ لَا يَنصُرُونَهُمْ وَلَئِن نَّصَرُوهُمْ لَيُوَلُّنَّ ٱلْأَدْبَٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنصَرُونَ

Word by word

لَئِنْ la-in If أُخْرِجُوا۟ ukh'rijū they are expelled لَا lā not يَخْرُجُونَ yakhrujūna they will leave مَعَهُمْ maʿahum with them وَلَئِن wala-in and if قُوتِلُوا۟ qūtilū they are fought لَا lā not يَنصُرُونَهُمْ yanṣurūnahum they will help them وَلَئِن wala-in And if نَّصَرُوهُمْ naṣarūhum they help them لَيُوَلُّنَّ layuwallunna certainly they will turn ٱلْأَدْبَـٰرَ l-adbāra (their) backs ثُمَّ thumma then لَا lā not يُنصَرُونَ yunṣarūna they will be helped

Transliteration

La-in okhrijoo la yakhrujoonamaAAahum wala-in qootiloo la yansuroonahum wala-innasaroohum layuwallunna al-adbara thumma layunsaroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(For) indeed if they are driven out they go not out with them, and indeed if they are attacked they help them not, and indeed if they had helped them they would have turned and fled, and then they would not have been victorious.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

If they are expelled, never will they go out with them; and if they are attacked (in fight), they will never help them; and if they do help them, they will turn their backs; so they will receive no help.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ولهذا قال : ( ولئن قوتلوا لا ينصرونهم ) أي : لا يقاتلون معهم ، ( ولئن نصروهم ) أي : قاتلوا معهم ( ليولن الأدبار ثم لا ينصرون ) وهذه بشارة مستقلة بنفسها .
